What every student receives

More than a backpack.
A fresh start.

Family Resource Day isn’t a hand-me-down drive. Every item is brand new, chosen for quality — because dignity matters as much as utility.

🎒

Brand-new backpack

Not last year’s. Not second-hand. A new backpack that signals: you belong here, ready for day one.

✏️

School supplies — already packed inside

Notebooks, pencils, folders, markers. Every required supply packed in and ready to go. Families leave with everything they need.

A pair of brand-new shoes

Because kids notice what’s on their feet. New shoes on the first day say: you fit in.

🤝

Community resources — health, housing, tutoring

The backpack is the door. FRD connects families to long-term support that stays in their lives well after July 31.

The research behind it

Why the first day of school
matters more than we think

📊

Children perceive the gap

Research shows kids directly perceive economic differences compared to their peers — and that stress carries into the classroom, lowers engagement, and affects performance all year long.

PMC Research, 2021
🎒

A backpack is a confidence signal

A new backpack isn’t just a bag. It signals: you’re ready. You belong here. You fit in. The families FRD serves can’t give their kids that signal on their own — not in the Bay Area’s economy.

$628 avg national cost / child
🌉

The Bay Area math doesn’t work

Daly City’s median income is $123K — but 1 in 2 students in the main school district qualifies for subsidized meals. High earners pull the average up. Low-income families are invisible in the headline, but very visible in every classroom.

Proof over promise

We’re not asking you to bet on an idea

Family Resource Day has happened every year since 2022. No cancellations. Every student who showed up walked out with a full kit.

2022
FRD launched. The beginning of a promise to the community.
2023
Year two. More students, more resources, more community.
2024
Families started planning ahead for it. It had become theirs.
2025
1,000+ students served total. The milestone was real and visible.

Corporate sponsorship

Five tiers. Direct, measurable impact.

Every tier translates directly into students equipped. This isn’t abstract community goodwill — it’s a number you can put in your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report.
