Families struggling with the high cost of living on the Peninsula now have a new source for clothing and home goods.  Pats’ Closet, located in a charming three bedroom home at 204 – 92nd Street in Daly City, across the street from the DMV, houses a wide array of new and gently used clothing and home goods generously donated by the community.  Everything inside Pats’ Closet is given free of charge to families-in-need and the homeless.

Daly City Mayor Glenn Sylvester, Vice Mayor Juslyn Manalo and Town of Colma Mayor Helen Fisicaro, were joined by dozens of community supporters at the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the center on February 13th.

“We are so excited to see the 20-year tradition of Daly City Community Service Center’s ‘Make a Difference Day’ recycle event become a year-round benefit for our residents.” said Pat Martel, City Manager, and one of the two Pats’ honored in the closet’s name.

“Inside I spotted a ‘We Can Do It’ Lunchbox, with that iconic ‘Rosie the Riveter’ Image from World War 2.  Now we all can do it together,” remarked Mayor Sylvester.

“We all have clothes and other items in our home that we no longer use or need.  Now is the time to clean out those closets and donate your things so others will benefit,” said Mayor Fisicaro.

“Donations have been pouring into our Daly City Community Service Center,” noted Pat Bohm, Executive Director of the Daly City Partnership, the non-profit management agency for Pats’ Closet, and whose mission is to connect the North County community to services that promote well-being. “Folks are so happy to see their excess clothes and treasures go directly to someone else who really needs them. Prior to the holidays, we had 7 families displaced by apartment fires.  With no renters insurance to aid them, our donated goods enabled them to shop immediately for replacement kitchen appliances and clothing.  But this is only the beginning.  Currently, Pats’ Closet is open two mornings each week.  More volunteers are needed to sort, clean and display clothes and help families find what they need.
